The Inspiring Skills Charter

The portal and Skills Passport (Squirrelit) will be underpinned by a three way skills charter which will provide a degree of commitment and benefits for all 3 parties:

Schools, academies, colleges and training providers will:

  • harness the support of business to deliver a curriculum that will motivate pupils to develop and hone the skills necessary for further learning and the world of work;
  • commit to the use of the inspiring skills passport;
  • nominate a skills ambassador to be a key contact and promote the use of the skills passport and
  • provide endorsement for pupils who have demonstrated they have work ready skills, aptitudes and behaviours.

Businesses will:

  • work with schools in a variety of ways to promote and provide opportunities for pupils to demonstrate and practise their skills for the work place;
  • work with school leadership teams to advise on and support the delivery of a curriculum that enables pupils to develop skills for lifelong learning and to become ready for the world of work and
  • promote and accept the skills passport as a recognised part of the application process for young people to communicate the skills, aptitudes and behaviours appropriate for the work place.

Councils will:

  • facilitate partnerships between schools, academies, colleges and businesses;
  • work with partners to make sure the skills passport is accessible to all schools, academies, training providers, and colleges and
  • promote and accept the skills passport as a recognised part of the application process for young people to communicate the skills, aptitudes and behaviours appropriate for the work place.
